Garden Furniture

I am sure we have all thought about purchasing garden furniture for our patios, decks and gardens. There are so many different styles and materials that it is sometimes hard to choose. I think most of us want our garden furniture to last for a number of years, particularly if we use them on a daily basis.

The construction of garden furniture can be made of different materials. We can mix and match garden furniture depending on our garden or several smaller gardens within our yard. The range can go from plastic to Reforest Teak, it all depends on our garden design. Our budget and the amount of time we will be spending in our gardens, whether gardening or just relaxing, has a lot to do with how we choose our materials. I am giving you a few of the different materials used when making outdoor furniture below:

During some of my research I found some powder-coated steel chairs that were very popular in the early 1940's. I am sure some of you remember what they look like, they have the shell-shaped back, drainage holes on the seat to prevent water from pooling and they also a little bit of "spring" to them when you sit down. I remember my parents had a pair of them in the backyard when I was growing up. These chairs can be placed in a garden that we want to have a retro feel, but please use cushions on the chairs as they will get very hot.

Aluminum is another fine material used for garden furniture. The chair seat and back can be sling, strap or lace design. The dining table can be glass or better yet tempered glass or plastic. The deck, patio or a vegetable garden might be a favorite for this garden furniture.

Cast iron furniture looks very beautiful as a bistro set. There are quite a few benches made of cast iron with intricate designs and some incorporate wood with the design. A nice little bistro set would look very cozy in a rose garden or a secret garden.

Wicker or rattan garden furniture has come a long way since the days of old. This furniture is made very sturdy and lasts a long time. There are not only sofas and chairs, but lounge chairs, coffee tables, trunks and plant stands. We can completely furnish an outside room with this type of garden furniture.

Plastic garden furniture has been around for quite some time and is long lasting with proper care. Adirondack chairs are also available in plastic along with round and oblong tables for dining and dining chairs. Some plastic chairs are also stackable for easy storage. A flower garden, pond area or water garden for relaxing would be a good spot for this furniture.

Wood garden furniture is becoming the most popular these days. The types of wood are: cedar, Brazilian cherry, alder, cypress, mahogany, pine, shorea (a teak relative) and of course teak and Reforest Teak. If properly maintained, some of these woods can last up to 30 years or more. The wood furniture is ideal for a deck, in the middle of a flower garden or around a firepit where everyone can relax.

These are just a few options for garden furniture and where to place them, but you may have many more ideas. The fun is in the planning and designing of our garden or gardens.
