Creating an Outdoor Landscape

Gardener's Garden Supplies

Many homeowners are creating an outdoor landscape in their heads even though it is bitterly cold in most of the country. The best time for creating an outdoor landscape is now, in your head or on paper, for that beautiful garden setting come spring. A successful landscape does not have to be a hit or a miss project. Doing a little bit of homework should solve most of the problems.

Some of us have small front yards while others have small back yards. There are many things that can be done in small yards we just have to use the space accordingly. Now is when the homework starts; look through some gardening magazines on landscape garden ideas and start cutting out the things you would like to see in your garden or your front lawn. Everything may not work for your landscape but you will at least have a head start. Please do not forget the hardscapes you already have or want to have such as fencing, patios and decks.

Once you have cut out the outdoor landscaping pictures of your dream garden organize them in a file as to what they are such as outdoor deck designs, outdoor landscape lighting ideas, outdoor fire pit landscaping, plants, and so on. As with every outdoor landscape project, be it large or small, starts with planning the design. Working with the available space to fit the plants you want can be a little overpowering; it is just going to take a little time and planning.

Our landscape design ideas may be very grandiose but we have to be realistic, we have a small yard to work around. Those boulders and rocks we would like to have must be scaled down to some rocks, stones, and pebbles. That huge beautiful flower garden you saw pictured will now be a smaller version with fewer flower bulbs or plants. You may not be able to put in that pond you always wanted and so a water fountain will work just as well. Everything all depends on your lifestyle and how you want to enjoy an outdoor garden.

Just because you have a small space does not mean that you cannot have the beautiful flower garden. All you have to do is build up by planting in raised beds for your bulbs and plants. Another idea is to place some of your outdoor landscaping plants in containers. With container gardening you will be using less space; they are good for creating terrace landscaping to maximize your limited space and can be moved around if needed. The containers can also be used as part of your backyard garden design because they come in so many sizes and shapes and have their own flare for design.

When designing your outdoor landscape you may want to think about the colors you want a small yard to have. The cool colors such as blue will give the impression that the garden is larger. Evergreens such as the blue spruce give off the feeling of largeness.

A small well-designed rock garden makes an attractive conversation piece. If your landscape spaces include a small corner or nook, or a raised bed area you can incorporate a small rock garden. You want to choose rocks and plants that compliment each other, which means the plants will not spread out too much and cover the rocks.

When it comes to the water feature you want to think small for that minimal landscape area. A serenity fountain is one idea for the sound of water movement. A birdbath is not only a water feature but a watering hole and bathing container for the birds. Fountains, birdbaths, and even small ponds come in various sizes and designs to fit almost any size landscape.

Even in the smallest yard, creating an outdoor landscape can magnify the look of the space in an enchanting demeanor. When taking the steps to consider the design be sure to use small features and those cool colors to help enlarge your outdoor landscaping. After all you want your outdoor landscape design to be a place for relaxing and to be your outdoor paradise that reflects your lifestyle.
